Bulk Group Management
ADManager Plus offers the flexibility to manage multiple groups via its Bulk Group Management feature which allows you to perform the following operations:
Highlights of bulk group modification
- Acts as a shortcut to execute some of the most frequently performed group management tasks like delete groups and move groups.
- Makes it easy to modify only a specific set of attributes like organization attributes and Exchange attributes.
- Modifies groups in bulk, in multiple OUs (you can exclude the child OUs if you do not wish to modify the group objects located within them)
Delete Groups
Procedure:
You have to import the list of groups that need to be deleted and click Apply.
Steps:
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Bulk Group Modification > Delete Groups.
- From the Select Domain drop down menu, select the domain in which the group(s) are located.
Note: If you know the OU in which the groups are located, click the Add OUs button and select the appropriate OU. If not, you can simply select the domain in which the group exists or skip it.
- You can use one of the following options to list the groups that have to be deleted.
- You can import the CSV file (sample CSV file), which contains the list of groups that have to be deleted. After importing the CSV file, from the Search by drop down menu on the right hand side, select the attribute based on which you want to display the group accounts.
Note: To list all the groups in the domain, hit the search button without entering anything in the search box.
- Now, use the check box to select the desired list of groups and click Apply.
Modify Organization Attributes Of Group
Steps:
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Bulk Group Modification > Organization Attributes.
- Set the email, description, and notes for the group.
- To modify the members of the group, use the Add to group drop down to add user(s) or group(s), and Remove from group to remove user(s) or group(s).
- To set the manager for the group, click Managed By and set the manager for the group.
- From the Select Domain drop down, select the domain in which the group(s) located.
Note: If you know the OU in which the groups are located, click the Add OUs button and select the appropriate OU. If not, you can skip it.
- You can now use one of the following options to list the groups that have to be modified.
- You can import the CSV file (sample CSV file), which contains the list of groups that have to be modified. After importing the CSV file, from the Search by drop down menu on the right hand side, select the attribute based on which you want to display the group accounts.
Note: To list all the groups in the domain, hit the search button without entering anything in the Search box.
- Now, use the check box to select the desired list of groups and click Apply.
Move Groups
Steps:
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Bulk Group Modification > Move Groups.
- Click the + icon and select the container to which you want to move the groups.
- From the Select Domain drop down menu, select the domain in which the group(s) located.
Note: If you know the OU in which the groups are located, click the Add OUs button and select the appropriate OU. If not, you can skip it.
- You can now use one of the following options to list the groups that have to be moved to a different OU.
- You can import the CSV file (sample CSV file), which contains the list of groups. On importing the CSV file, from the Search by drop down menu on the right hand side, select the attribute based on which you want to display the groups.
Note: To list all the groups, just click the Search button without typing anything in the search box.
- Now, use the check box to select the desired list of groups and then click Apply.
Modify Exchange Attributes of Group
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Bulk Group Modification > Modify Exchange Attributes.
- To set delivery restrictions for the incoming mails,
- Set the receiving message size.
- Decide the objects from whom the group can accept messages.
- From the Select Domain drop down menu, select the domain in which the group(s) located.
Note: If you know the OU in which the groups are located, click the Add OUs button and select the appropriate OU. If not, you can simply select the domain in which the group exists or skip it.
- You can now use one of the following options to list the groups requiring Exchange Attributes modifications.
- You can import the CSV file (sample CSV file), which contains the list of groups. On importing the CSV file, from the Search by drop-down menu on the right hand side, select the attribute based on which you want to display the groups.
Note: To list all the groups, just click the Search button without typing anything in the search box.
- Now, use the check box to select the desired list of groups and then click Apply.
Restore Deleted Groups
Steps:
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Bulk Group Modification > Restore Deleted Groups.
- On the Restore Groups from Recycle Bin page, use the Select Domain drop-down menu to choose the domain.
- Specify the groups to be restored in any of the following ways:
Modify Dynamic Group
Dynamic groups automatically add or remove members based on configured rules. These can be rule-based AD security or distribution groups. The rules can only be set up and modified from ADManager Plus, and the groups will be created as normal security or distribution groups in AD.
Procedure:
Modify the Dynamic Membership Rules by defining conditions or using the Advanced Filter. Preview the members to ensure accuracy, then click Save.
Steps:
- Navigate to the Management tab > Group Management > Dynamic Membership > Modify Dynamic Group
- Click Modify Group next to the dynamic group you want to modify.
- Once you are redirected to the Modify dynamic group page, In the Dynamic Membership Rules section, click the + icon to choose the object type for which you want to create a rule from the drop-down list that appears.
- In the filters, you can customize the rule by configuring AD-object-based filters.
- Under Advanced Filters, use the options below to customize the rule:
- Use the Filter from Report option to select predefined reports for the rules.
- In the LDAP Query field, write your own query for the rule.
- Under Advanced Settings,
- In the Exclude Objects section, specify objects to be excluded, even if they meet the set conditions.
- In the Include Objects section, list the objects to be included in addition to the set conditions.
- Select Preview Members to view the objects that match the specified conditions.
- Click Save.
Note: To switch the group membership from dynamic to direct, select the group and click the Clear Dynamic Membership button.
